Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj announced on Sunday that talks between oil officials and municipalities in Libya’s western region are taking place in hopes of raising oil production levels by 380,000 barrels per day. According to officials, the current levels of oil production in Libya have reached about 580,000 to 600,000 bpd.

Last week, Waha oilfield began producing oil after a long period of low levels of production after clashes between rival militias in Libya’s oil crescent region got out of control, said a senior oil official.

The Libyan National Oil Corporation is hoping to raise oil production to 900,000 bpd by December and is counting on the reopening of the major oil facilities in the western part of the country to make that happen.

Oil production in Libya has significantly increased over the last month, the violence that sprang from the 2011 Libyan uprisings forced many oil facilities across Libya to shut down.
