Tripoli, Libya’s capital city,  was hit with two car bombs Thursday morning, said a security official.

According to the security official, the cars exploded behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and close to the naval base that was previously used by the UN-backed unity government (GNA) as their headquarters.

Only cars that were near the explosion were damaged and “the explosions did not cause any casualties,” said the security official, who only agreed to speak with AFP after being promised his identity would be kept anonymous.

The group behind the attack has yet to claim responsibility for it.

Tripoli has had many attacks similar to Thursday morning’s car bomb explosions take place on its streets. After the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, many groups sought to take over power of the city or country as a whole. This political tension would often result in similar attacks in Tripoli.

However, before Thursday morning, the last time an attack of this kind took place in Tripoli was September 8, 2015, exactly one year ago.
